Premiere: Cultural Foundation of Deutsche Bank awards art prize in Poland

Elzbieta Jablonska is the winner of the prize awarded by the Cultural Foundation of Deutsche Bank for young Polish art. The award was this year assigned for the first time and traces back to a joint initiative of the Cultural Foundation and Deutsche Bank Polska S.A. The project aims to provide a national and international platform to young contemporary artists so that they can exhibit their works. "We are also committed to such a competition in Poland because your country is dear to us and we would like to perform our social responsibility in all locations where we are represented as a corporation.", Dr. von Heydebreck revealed last Tuesday on the occasion of the award at the Zacheta Gallery for Contemporary art in Warsaw.

The jury had nominated Jablonska the winner from a preselection of eight artists. The prize consists of prize money in the amount of 10.000 Euro as well as an "art"-journey through Germany organized for the artist. Dr. von Heydebreck emphasised at the award ceremony that he can well imagine the competition to be continued and expressed his hope for "the night to become another important milestone for young Polish art on its way to greater national and international acknowledgement."

The artist Elzbieta Jablonska (born 1970) studied art at the Fine Arts Department of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. In her works, she concentrates on painting and prints but also installations and performances tied to space and time. She was awarded the prize by the Cultural Foundation of Deutsche Bank for her work Helping (2003), comprising embroidery and 60.000 professionally destroyed 100 Zloty-notes in acrylic glass cuboids.
